“What connection have I missed with this client of mine, because I was too afraid to show vulnerability?” – Renee Blasky
22nd APRIL 2022
Hello!
Have you ever had an "aha" moment when looking back on an event years later?
This happened to me when I was undergoing coaching training and taking a close look at my childhood. When my mother taught me how to stop my brothers from picking on me, I unconsciously extended the lesson well into my thirties. I ended up putting up a wall so fortified I was not able to be vulnerable.
Consequently, I also missed out on making deep and meaningful connections. I was under the false impression that being vulnerable meant being "weak". I have since learned that by being vulnerable you are stronger than ever. Vulnerability allows you to be your authentic self. And that is incredibly liberating!
As someone who lived on a sailboat for seven years and sailed across an ocean, I never wanted to have to send an SOS signal because it would have meant I was in imminent catastrophic danger. But when we are not at sea, sending a message of needing help can make our lives easier and allow us to create wonderful and meaningful relationships in business and in our personal lives.
I invite you to look at your ability to be vulnerable. Do you consider it a weakness or a strength?
If you are interested to know more about my "aha" moment, I shared it with Melinda Cohan when I was a guest on her podcast "Just Between Coaches." See the link below.

Flash the Morse Code signal SOS and help is sure to come your way.
Master these 10 Signs of Strength (SOS) and the help may be in the form of improved relationships, greater joy and connection with yourself, better self care and enhanced communication.
All in all, quite a life raft!
10 Signs of Strength (SOS)
1. Respond instead of react. When we react, we give away our personal power.
2. Identify and learn from your judgments. Judgments are often a reflection of our own inner needs and values.
3. Reach out when you need it. Asking for help is not a weakness.
4. Keep your word—especially to yourself. Beautiful palaces are built on this foundation of integrity.
5. Speak what is true for you. Authenticity begins here, now.
6. Take time for yourself. This isn’t narcissistic or indulgent. Caring for yourself helps you care for others better.
7. Know what you want. Take the time to figure out this one. It’s worth it.
8. Don’t take things personally. Even if it sounds personal, it usually isn’t.
9. Honor your limits. Setting boundaries is an act of caring.
10. Recognize fear as a guide, not a barrier. Your dark side is a friend when seen in the right light.
