“Fulfillment doesn’t come from doing the expected,
but from daring to LEAP into the unknown.”

Dear Renée,

Having just turned 60, I greatly appreciate and celebrate that I am truly living an amazing life; a life that was not dictated by others or society, but was “right” for me.

I have sailed an ocean on a 45-foot sailboat from Singapore to Kenya, have jumped out of a perfectly good airplane in celebration of entering my 60th year, gone scuba diving with sharks, climbed the world’s tallest free-standing mountain, gone up in a hot air balloon over the Masai Mara, trekked with wild chimpanzees and mountain gorillas, and zip lined one of the world’s fastest zip lines in Costa Rica, etc.  And just two days ago, went indoor skydiving to celebrate the one year anniversary of my “true” skydiving experience.

All of these adventures have made me a better entrepreneur in that they have taught me to:

1) Get comfortable with being uncomfortable!
2) Not let other people's limitations stop me.
3) Hang out with those who support my goals, even if they can't do it themselves.
4) Understand courage is moving past my fear, not giving in to it.
5) Get a different perspective.
6) Appreciate life is a gift – I need to go out and grab it!
7) Pair up with an expert.
8) Focus on what I want, not on what I don’t want!

Are you living the life of your dreams?
Or do you listen to your naysayer rebel within?

Taking the LEAP with you!

The Rebel Within

If you’re a human then you have at least one voice in your head that chimes in on everything you do or want to do.

Sometimes the voices are enjoyable…

“Oh yay! Chocolate!”
“I feel so GOOD right now."
“That’s a great song!”

And other times, not so much…

“I look so fat & ugly in this shirt.”
“I can’t do anything right. I should just give up.”
“Nobody wants to hear anything I have to say.”

The negative self-talk that plagues the minds of every person on the planet can be painful, and downright crippling. It can (and will) drive us crazy and rob us of our dreams if we let it, which is exactly what makes it so dangerous.

Left unchecked, this voice will throw a wrench in every endeavor we’ll ever pursue. It will try to sabotage our relationships, ruin our opportunities, and leave us miserable, wrecked and wondering what could have been.

This is why we must learn to manage the inner critic that sabotages us.

Do you have hopes and dreams that are bigger than the life you’re currently living? And yet something seems to be blocking your way.

And the bigger your dreams are, the more boldly your resistance manifests. Wouldn’t you like to figure out how to stop that annoying pattern and make your dreams a little easier to accomplish?

The first step is identifying the voice of your own little naysayer rebel…

  • Maybe yours sounds like a high school principal and tells you you’ll never amount to anything.
  • Or perhaps it sounds like an over-protective mother, or caring spouse telling you that you’re going to get hurt or embarrassed if you try something new.

By identifying the unique voice of your saboteur you can spot it when it starts to speak. And then you can thank it for trying to protect you and go on to inform it that you don’t need its protection anymore.

The second step is dealing with it.

  • This is where things get fun!

If you want to discover the next step, I have some exercises for you to help you deal with that rebel!

Simply send me an email with the subject line “Rebel Within”!

Are You Too Cautious?

Helen Keller, a famous American blind and deaf educator said: “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” Sometimes it’s wise to be cautious, particularly when physical safety is at stake. However, when we play it safe simply to protect our ego or heart, or we are afraid to get out of our comfort zones, we are likely closing off possibilities that could bring us greater joy and fulfillment.

Life is shaped by our choices.
So just what are you choosing?

Answer “true” or “false” to the following statements to discover if you are likely not living life to its fullest by being too cautious.

Set 1

  1. Life doesn’t feel safe. I’m content with things as they are and prefer to stay in my “comfort zone.”
  2. I’m afraid something bad will happen if I veer off my usual course. I feel safer and more confident when I stick to what I already know.
  3. I frequently worry “what if…?” If I can’t be certain of the outcome, I won’t take the risk. Being rejected, looking stupid and failing are not options.
  4. I know there are business and romantic opportunities I’ve missed out on because of being so risk-averse.
  5. My fear of the unknown is paralyzing. When I look at my life, I have many regrets about things I didn’t do.
  6. I feel bad about myself for being so cautious. I think of myself as a coward and I expect that others see me that way, too.

Set 2

  1. I am committed to growing myself bigger than my fears. It’s not that I’m unafraid; it’s just that I am more committed to my goals and know the cost of playing it safe.
  2. Developing courage is like building a muscle. The more I practice taking risks, even small ones, the more empowered I feel.
  3. When I have a goal or dream that feels big and scary, I minimize feeling overwhelmed by “chunking it down” into more manageable, short-term steps.
  4. I enlist the support of those who can help me move beyond my comfort zone to a more fulfilling life.
  5. When I take risks, I trust I can handle whatever comes. If I fall, I know that I can get up again. I don’t conclude that I shouldn’t have tried or that I’m a failure.
  6. My biggest successes have come when I’ve taken a big LEAP of faith.

If you answered True more often in Set 1 and False more often in Set 2, you may wish to learn some effective ways to move beyond your comfort zone to live a more fulfilled life.

Renée Blasky is the Founder and CEO of The LEAP Network Ltd.

She wasn’t always the risk-taking entrepreneur that she is today. Through several important life experiences, including being an "expat" for the vast majority of her life and sailing an ocean, she learned the importance and benefits of risk-taking and how to embrace risk rather than fear it! Renée also realized capturing life’s fulfillment meant giving back to others. So, she started her second business: The LEAP Network in order to share her experiences and expertise with entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs.  This includes "trailing spouses", stay-at-home parents or elderly caregivers who have sacrificed their careers due to circumstances beyond their control.  Renée coaches existing entrepreneurs on ways to monetize their passion, revitalize their businesses and take action to grow their businesses.  She coaches those who have sacrificed their careers, either by choice or by uncontrolled circumstances, to eliminate frustration, boredom, and loneliness while becoming more fulfilled and happy!  By helping them start their own online businesses, they can get their identity back, boost their self-esteem and once again be financially independent!
