Hello Renée,

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."  - Walt Disney

To make your dreams come true, you need a plan and the ability to put it into action.  Simple right?  In principle, yes, it’s very simple but for many the “taking action” part never takes place for one reason or another.  “I’m too busy, I’m too tired, or I just don’t know where to begin”

Tony Robbins states we put off things to avoid the pain of the moment, only to experience that it is even more painful doing it later when there is a deadline looming.  When a deadline nears, we roar into action because suddenly, not taking action is much more painful than just doing it!  So Tony suggests, “Instead of asking yourself, ‘How can I avoid doing this painful task’, ask ‘If I don’t take action now, what will this ultimately cost me?’ ”

Tony wants us to use pain as a friend to get us moving towards our goals!  Works for me;  Does it work for you too?

TIME FOR A PRODUCTIVITY TUNE-UP!

Main-te-nance (noun): work that is done regularly to keep a machine, building or piece of equipment in good condition and in working order.

Consider the 1967 Porsche Targa you would like to have in your driveway (costing USD100,000 plus), the issue of a tune-up is a no-brainer. No one would risk ruining such a finely crafted (and expensive) machine by neglecting routine—but critical—maintenance.

Ah, but when we turn our attention to the finely crafted “machine” reading this article, and the equally finely crafted enterprise you’re responsible for, suddenly “tune-up” starts to sound like your mother nagging you to brush your teeth. Yet the same principles apply: Maintenance is what it takes to keep us “in good condition and in working order.”

So what should you be doing?

Step #1 - any productivity tune-up has to start with a quick assessment of where you stand today.

  • What’s frustrating you?
  • Where do you feel you are failing?
  • What are your sources of stress?

Next, take a hard look at the source of these problems. Or, as productivity expert Julie Morgenstern puts it, answer the question: “Is it me, or is it them?” Taking a hard look at these issues will help point out what needs attention.

JUST GET STARTED

We’ve all put things off. I’ve done it, your boss has done it, and you’re probably doing it right now. No one is a stranger to procrastination.

And unfortunately, we also know from experience that it’s stressful, detrimental to progress, and overall, a nasty habit to fall into.

Fortunately, procrastination has a simple cure…

JUST GET STARTED.

Seriously.  Just start doing what you’ve been putting off.  Forget perfection. Forget getting ready. Forget gathering support or any other trick that you use to postpone the inevitable. You and I both know that you have to get that stuff done, so start doing it.

I understand, it’s hard to get moving. A body at rest wants to stay at rest. However, once you get going, a body in motion wants to stay in motion.

But don’t worry about that for now. Don’t worry about finishing your work, or getting it all right, or whatever else might come later…just get started.

Keep reading to learn how!

What can YOU get started on right NOW?

Renée Blasky is the Founder and CEO of The LEAP Network Ltd.

She wasn’t always the risk-taking entrepreneur that she is today. Through several important life experiences, including being an "expat" for the vast majority of her life and sailing an ocean, she learned the importance and benefits of risk-taking and how to embrace risk rather than fear it! Renée also realized capturing life’s fulfillment meant giving back to others. So, she started her second business: The LEAP Network in order to share her experiences and expertise with "trailing spouses" who have sacrificed their careers to move across the globe when their spouses are transferred overseas.  Renée coaches on ways to avoid the "trailing spouse syndrome" to eliminate frustration, boredom and loneliness while becoming more fulfilled and happy!
