3 January 2019

Hello Renée,

Happy New Year!  2019 is here!

Want to make it the best year ever?  You may be grumbling, “I say that every year – and it never turns out the way I want it to, so why should 2019 be any different?”

Well, let me ask the question?  "Did you make a plan, write it down, share it with others so you’re accountable and do everything in you power to make it happen?"  If you answered “no”, maybe 2018 wasn’t your best year yet!  You are not alone though, most people do not follow through on their dreams because they do not know how or give up too easily.

There’s hope for 2019!
You can start today, by taking small steps everyday to making the changes you want to get the life and income you want and deserve!  Your first decision for 2019 might be to ask for help in forming a plan and a strategy to implement it.

LIFE'S CHOICES AREN'T ALL EASY, BUT THEY ARE ALL YOURS

Life is about making choices.

Imagine bellying up to the counter at your local Haagen Dazs and telling the server, "I’ll have whatever you think I'd like".

Of course you wouldn't do that. With a veritable rainbow of ice cream flavors tempting you, making a choice might be difficult, but you'd do it. "Give me Cherries Jubilee and Chocolate Night, put the chocolate on the bottom and get a scoop with lots of cherries in it for the top."

Granted not many of life's choices are as lightweight as choosing between chocolate and vanilla, but what you choose and how you make choices, or don't make them, is as central to your self-esteem as taking responsibility for yourself.

Choices come in two flavors: Active — when you make something happen and live with the consequences, and Passive — when you "choose not to choose," and continue to live with the status quo because the stakes appear too high for any changes choice might bring.

YOUR INTELLIGENCE MAKES YOU INVALUABLE

Have you ever felt that you had nothing to offer…that you don’t have any special gifts or talents?

During times of frustration or despair, it’s common to feel ‘ordinary’.  It can seem that everyone else is far more brilliant, beautiful and worthy of consideration.

In times like these, take solace in the one thing that you can offer that no-one else can: your unique perspective.

You see, nobody looks at the world the way that you do, nor thinks in exactly the same way. Once you start to engage your innate intelligence, be it simple and from the heart or complex and of the mind, your unique creativity begins to shine, and you become a beacon of brilliance.

You may be sitting on the one solution that no-one else can imagine, or you may hold just the right words to bring comfort and understanding to a tense situation. You never know until you trust your own uniqueness and start to apply your mind, your perspective and your creativity to something outside of yourself.

And sometimes, you don’t even need to EXPRESS your intelligence. Consider the CEO who sits with her team-leaders, encouraging their ideas until brilliance is born. By simply listening, caring and encouraging, you can change a life – and the world.

How will YOU influence the world TODAY and throughout 2019?

Those of you who follow my newsletters, know I’m an avid user of the Panda Planner.  It helps me prioritize my month and week so I do not get bogged down by my “to do list”.  It forces me to prioritize the “big stuff” and leave the “tasks” to do after the “big stuff” gets done.

I consider the “big stuff “to be anything related to building the business: i.e. keeping in touch with my clients, getting additional clients, creating new products and services, and all things developmental.  By “tasks”, I mean paying bills, answering non-client related emails, running errands, etc.  By focusing on the “big stuff” I make progress in growing my business.

I used to concentrate on my “to do list” with no particular order or priority – I would do the easy stuff first, allowing me a sense of accomplishment where I could scratch it off my list.  Most often though, I wouldn’t be focused enough on the developmental aspects of my business so didn’t really get much accomplished, despite feeling I had done a day’s worth of work!  When I started making development my priority, things started moving fast!

So focus on what’s important and make it a priority for that month, week and day.

Another thing – plan your day by recognizing what energizes you, what drains you and what is neutral (doesn’t do either). It's called the “E/N/D formula”.  When you know you have to do something that drains you, plan something that energizes right after it, so you have something to look forward to!  And if you can, always end your day with an energizing activity so you look forward to the next day!

Renée Blasky is the Founder and CEO of The LEAP Network Ltd.

She wasn’t always the risk-taking entrepreneur that she is today. Through several important life experiences, including being an "expat" for the vast majority of her life and sailing an ocean, she learned the importance and benefits of risk-taking and how to embrace risk rather than fear it! Renée also realized capturing life’s fulfillment meant giving back to others. So, she started her second business: The LEAP Network in order to share her experiences and expertise with "trailing spouses" who have sacrificed their careers to move across the globe when their spouses are transferred overseas.  Renée coaches on ways to avoid the "trailing spouse syndrome" to eliminate frustration, boredom and loneliness while becoming more fulfilled and happy!
