“Accept yourself, love yourself, and keep moving forward.
If you want to fly, you have to give up what weighs you down.”

Dear Renée,

I’m hearing from home-based solopreneurs more and more about how they feel they are being pulled from all directions.

The spouse and the kids are now home 24/7. The elderly parents are lonely but they’re in lockdown. Consequently, any and all boundaries previously established are out the window. The solopreneur is feeling guilty, resentment, frustration, hassled, disrespected and mostly, inadequate! Multi-taking, the robber of productivity on even the best of days, is back to being the rule of thumb. The solopreneur’s goals are on the back burner, smothering any momentum created through earlier creativity and productivity in getting the business up and running, getting clients, and earning money.  Exhaustion, both physical, emotional, and mental is the new name of the game.

At times like these, the solopreneur must invoke grace and compassion - for the disrupters as well as for themselves.  These are not normal times. The other day, I heard an interview with a teacher. She stated parents should not worry about their kids falling behind academically because the teacher can help them catch up. The most important thing right now is for the student’s emotional and mental needs to be nurtured. The same goes for the soloprenuer. Look after your emotional and mental health right now.  Don’t let yourself go into a downward spiral. I can help you catch up when the time is right. In the meantime, here are some tips if you find yourself talking trash or feel like giving up. Remember, this too shall pass!

How to Handle Negative Emotions and Thoughts

You may be facing enormous uncertainty in your life right now.

It may even be causing you to have flashbacks to your childhood when things were not in your control or you were scared, not knowing what was going to happen next.

As human beings we are designed to survive through the fight or flight response – both raise our stress levels to help protect us, help us survive.  When faced with continual stress, however, our minds and bodies pay the price. Emotions can run wild, heightened by exaggerated fear. The media has trained us to listen to doom and gloom rather than focusing on the positive; the vast majority of us are healthy and staying safe in our homes.

Unless we are very careful, our health can suffer from the stress-causing us to eat continually, and not get enough exercise.  Stress also wreaks havoc with our hormones keeping us out of balance.

When unfavorable events and emotional situations occur in our lives—there’s a good chance we will face negative emotions and thoughts.

At best, these negative thoughts and emotions cause frustration and anger. At worst, they cause undue suffering, uphill struggle, and sometimes even death.

The good news: we have the power to change these negative thoughts and emotions.

Based on your power to change negative thoughts and emotions,

If you are like so many of us who are spending more and more time on Zoom these days, you may be interested in PEXELS.

They have hundreds of virtual backgrounds from which to choose.  By using a virtual background you don’t have to worry about where you are, or what it looks like.  All you have to do is get dressed – the top half anyway!  One of my clients uses the virtual background when she has meetings in the bathroom – the only room in her house where she can get some peace and quiet with the spouse and kids being around 24/7.  Maybe you can relate! Renée Blasky is the Founder and CEO of The LEAP Network Ltd.

She wasn’t always the risk-taking entrepreneur that she is today. Through several important life experiences, including being an "expat" for the vast majority of her life and sailing an ocean, she learned the importance and benefits of risk-taking and how to embrace risk rather than fear it! Renée also realized capturing life’s fulfillment meant giving back to others.

So, she started her second business: The LEAP Network in order to share her experiences and expertise with entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs.  This includes "trailing spouses", stay-at-home parents or elderly caregivers who have sacrificed their careers due to circumstances beyond their control.  Renée coaches existing entrepreneurs on ways to monetize their passion, revitalize their businesses, and take action to grow their businesses.

Her signature program is Get Results without the Overwhelm, helping entrepreneurs set strategic goals, be productive, kick procrastination to the curb and be accountable so success gets closer one step at a time.
